(January 4, 2016) – A total of 134 donors have supported Jasmine Beach-Ferrara in her campaign for the District 1 seat on Buncombe County Commission. She raised over $24,000 from these 134 donors between announcing her candidacy in mid-November and the end of the year fundraising period; this total excludes in-kind donations such as campaign buttons made by Jasmine’s mother-in-law.
Beach-Ferrara is a Democrat and Executive Director of the Campaign for Southern Equality, an Asheville-based nonprofit that promotes LGBT rights throughout the South. This is her first run for office. “This broad, grassroots support reflects the leadership that Jasmine brings to the race and how ready Buncombe County is for new voices in our local politics,” said Aaron Sarver, Beach-Ferrara’s co-campaign manager. “At its best, politics is about people coming together to create a community in which kids, families and elders can thrive. That's why I'm running and that's what this campaign is about,” says Beach-Ferrara. Jasmine grew up in Chapel Hill raised by her mom, a public health nurse. Jasmine and her wife, Meghann Burke, live in the East End neighborhood of Asheville with their one-year-old son.
