This summer, we've been lucky to have Jordan Terry (JT) interning with us full-time. He's a rising senior at the University of Missouri, studying political science and journalism and relocated to Asheville for the summer to dive into politics here.
I'm in the unusual position of running unopposed, so one of our campaign's top priorities is supporting other Democratic candidates and JT has been instrumental to that. As part of the Blue Ridge Mountain Coalition (BRMC), a project of the Buncombe County Democratic Party that provides key support to competitive state legislature races in and around Buncombe County.
Along with other members of the BRMC, JT has been working on key WNC legislative races to re-elect Rep. Brian Turner and Rep. John Ager, and to elect Jane Hipp and Rhonda Schandevel. He's also been volunteering for Josh Stein for Attorney General's. All told, he's logged hundreds of hours phonebanking and canvassing for these candidates. Beyond that, JT has been helping me with policy research on key issues like paid leave. We're lucky to have him here as part of the Democratic team in Western NC!
As a side project, we've also been driving the serpentine - and beautiful - boundaries of District 1 to learn every turn in the District.
